On August 26, 2025, the Sub-forum President’ Meeting of the 6th China New Materials Industry Development Conference was successfully held at the Beijing Railway Hotel.

Focusing on national development strategies, the meeting served as a high-level industry event that combined in-depth exchange with pragmatic outcomes. professor Wei Bingbo, President of the Chinese Materials Research Society (CMRS), Professor Zhang Zengzhi, Secretary General of CMRS, as well as President or Secretaries-General of the sub-forums attended the meeting, which was chaired by professor Zhang Zengzhi.

As a strategic and foundational industry, the new materials sector plays a critical role in global scientific and technological competition and in enhancing national comprehensive strength. Amid the rapid transformation and upgrading of the global new materials industry, China’s new materials sector is presented with numerous opportunities while also facing significant challenges. After five editions of continuous development, the China New Materials Industry Development Conference has become a premier exchange platform bringing together experts, scholars, and industry representatives from China and abroad. It has played an irreplaceable role in promoting deep integration of industry–academia–research–application and advancing industrial technological innovation in the field of new materials.

At the meeting, professor Wei Bingbo delivered an important address, providing strategic guidance for the preparation of the 6th Conference from both a global perspective and the level of national development strategy. Professor Zhang Zengzhi gave a detailed briefing on the overall progress of conference preparations, including comprehensive upgrades to conference services. President or Secretaries-General of each sub-forum then reported on their respective preparation progress, covering key information such as expected attendance, venue requirements, and plans for sub-forum exchanges. Centered on how to help China’s new materials industry gain a competitive edge globally and enhance China’s international discourse power in the field, participants engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges of views. From breakthroughs in cutting-edge new materials R&D to accelerating the transformation and application of scientific and technological achievements; from strengthening international cooperation to building a sound industrial ecosystem, many constructive opinions and suggestions were put forward.

The successful convening of this sub-forum President’ meeting not only further consolidated collective efforts and clarified priorities for subsequent preparation work, but also laid a solid foundation for the 6th China New Materials Industry Development Conference, which will be held from October 11 to 13 at the Guilin International Convention and Exhibition Center in Guangxi.

At that time, the conference will focus on seven key areas: critical basic materials, key energy materials, key information materials, biomedical materials, materials for clothing, food, housing and transportation, environmental engineering materials, and safety engineering materials. Emphasis will be placed on major breakthroughs in frontier new materials, new trends in industrial development, and emerging application scenarios. Against the backdrop of the accelerating new round of global scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, the conference will inject strong momentum into the development of China’s new materials industry and the global new materials sector as a whole, effectively promoting international collaboration and joint progress. It aims to explore more innovative achievements in the field of new materials and contribute wisdom and strength toward the grand goal of building a “strong nation in materials.”
