The world is entering a new era characterized by the "large-scale circulation of industrial resources and vigorous development of the green economy," with "recycled new materials" being a central theme of this era. In support of the development of new quality productive forces in remote ethnic minority regions, Chinese Materials Research Society (CMRS) is organizing the inaugural China "2025 Recycled New Materials Conference" in Wuzhou City, Guangxi, from October 17 to 20, 2025. This event aims to discuss strategies for high-quality development in the recycled new materials industry, share development opportunities, and collaboratively plan for the future. Concurrently, an exposition on the recycled new materials industry ecosystem will be held, along with the release of three "Thousand-Item" cooperation lists—featuring "Sci-Tech China" specialty experts, industrial achievements technological needs—and an advanced training workshop on technology transfer and transformation capabilities in the materials field.

The conference will cover 19 sub-forums, including topics such as recycled metal materials, recycled inorganic materials, recycled polymer materials, recycled electronic materials, recycled battery materials, AI + new materials, water treatment and purification materials, and green processing equipment. It will bring together 1,200 leading experts and entrepreneurs to participate in this grand gathering. The conference has been meticulously designed to create an integrated industrial innovation and exchange platform that synergizes "conferences, exhibitions, industry, and research," fostering deep connections among technology, enterprises, and the market. By pooling intellectual and resource strengths, it aims to support the high-quality development of the recycled new materials industry.

Although Wuzhou City in Guangxi is geographically remote with limited transportation access, the green circular economy accounts for over 50% of its industrial output. Wuzhou is a nationally renowned processing base for the recycling and reuse of solid waste. Enhancing the quality and efficiency of Wuzhou's recycling industry from the perspective of cutting-edge new materials and supporting the development of new quality productive forces in the circular economy is an unwavering responsibility and commitment of the Chinese Materials Research Society. Together with the Wuzhou Municipal People's Government, CMRS is co-organizing the first "2025 Recycled New Materials Conference" to establish pioneering collaborations and create an exemplary model for the recycled new materials industry nationwide.

The opening ceremony was chaired by Professor Li Guangxian, Supervisor of the Chinese Materials Research Society and First Vice President of the International Union of Materials Research Societies (IUMRS). Academician Wei Bingbo, President of CMRS, delivered the opening address.

In his speech, he emphasized that CMRS will support Wuzhou's recycled new materials industry in advancing toward high-precision and cutting-edge development. Efforts will be accelerated to establish R&D centers and industrial pilot bases, gradually forming a world-class recycled new materials industrial base that leads domestically and holds significant international influence. He called on scientists and technicians to closely align with national strategic needs, fulfill their mission, leverage the power of technological innovation, and vigorously promote the high-quality development of the recycled new materials industry.

Wang Jinzhan, Secretary of the Secretariat of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), also delivered a speech. He pointed out that recycled new materials serve as a key enabler for addressing resource constraints and driving green transformation, playing a crucial role in developing new quality productive forces and advancing the "dual carbon" goals. He noted that Wuzhou's recycled new materials industry cluster demonstrates significant scale effects, distinctive features, and prominent advantages. Through academic exchanges, industry matchmaking, cooperation signings, and exhibitions, this conference will pool innovative achievements and resources in the recycled new materials industry, further fueling the high-quality development of Wuzhou's recycled new materials sector. CAST, he stated, is fully implementing central government directives, leveraging the outcomes of the 26th CAST Annual Meeting to deepen and expand the transformation and application of scientific achievements. It will enrich the collaboration models and content between national societies and local regions under the "Sci-Tech China" brand, contributing to Guangxi's high-quality development and supporting national strategies. CAST will continue to serve as a bridge, facilitating precise connections among industry, technology, and talent, and supporting the comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development as well as high-quality industrial growth.

Academician Wang Yuzhong delivered a report titled "Chemical Recycling and Upcycling of Polymer Materials."

Academician Zhu Meifang presented on "Green, Low-Carbon Recycling and Application Technologies of Fiber Materials."

Professor Chu Shuangjie spoke on "Key Technology Development and Application of Titanium and Titanium Alloy Recycling."

Wu Gaohui shared insights on "New Technologies for Recycling Beryllium from Waste into Beryllium-Aluminum Materials and Their Prospects."

During the opening ceremony, the "Gathering Talents in Guangxi • High-Level Experts Guangxi Tour (Wuzhou)" activity was launched. The Wuzhou Municipal People's Government and the Chinese Materials Research Society signed a strategic cooperation agreement, and the "CMRS Wuzhou Recycled New Materials Collaborative Innovation Center" was inaugurated. Several investment promotion projects in the recycled new materials industry were also signed on site.

Currently, the recycled new materials industry is experiencing a period of overlapping opportunities in "policy support, market access, and development prospects." The hosting of this conference will bring new development opportunities to the industry. The Chinese Materials Research Society will work to ensure the effective implementation of the conference outcomes, accelerate the transformation of the recycled new materials industry toward high-end, intelligent, and green development, and fully commit to building an innovation and development hub for the recycled new materials industry.
