On July 30th, the Specialized Forum on the Strategic Planning of Advanced Materials for the “15th Five-Year Plan Period", held by part of the 27th Annual Conference of the China Association for Science and Technology, was organized by the Chinese Materials Research Society at the China Hall of Science and Technology in Beijing.

The forum was chaired by Zhang Zengzhi, Secretary-General of the Chinese Materials Research Society, with specialized reports moderated by Gao Ruiping, Secretary- General of the Expert Committee of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). Attendees included Gao Ruiping (NSFC Expert Committee Secretary-General), Qi Rang (Former Vice Chairman of China Association for Science and Technology), Lu Zhaoping (Standing Committee Member of CPC Beijing University of Science and Technology Committee and Vice President), Miao Hongyan (Former Deputy Director of NSFC Department of Engineering and Materials Sciences), Wu Gaohui (Professor at Harbin Institute of Technology), Dai Shenglong (Chief Materials Specialist for Major Projects at Aero Engine Corporation of China), Ma Yanwei (Deputy Director and Researcher at Institute of Electrical Engineering of Chinese Academy of Sciences), Chen Renjie (Professor at Beijing Institute of Technology), and Zhang Lei (Professor at Beijing University of Science and Technology).

The event consisted of two sessions，Report topics revolved around strategic scientific capacity building, innovation system enhancement, and industrial system development in materials science, covering comprehensive content including   ‘superconducting materials, low-dimensional quantum materials, advanced semiconductor materials, bio-based materials, and advanced energy materials and etc'. Presentations elaborated development pathways such as tackling key common technologies in materials, transforming scientific achievements into applications, and pursuing "AI + new materials".

During the thematic exchange session, Wang Jinzhan, CPC Leadership Member and Secretary of Secretariat of China Association for Science and Technology, along with other association representatives, participated in discussions. Attendees engaged in deep exchanges and deliberations regarding the "development trends and key direction recommendations for advanced materials during the 15th Five-Year Plan period," offering numerous innovative and practical suggestions on future development trends.

The forum brought together over 60 experts and scholars from provincial associations, national societies, research institutes, and universities expert, scholar. Discussions focused on strategic planning issues concerning advanced materials for the 15th Five-Year Plan period. In additon, the society collaborated with the field-specific journal Advanced Materials Today to solicit and publish 10 high-quality related papers.
