To accelerate the high-quality development of the newly established journals Transactions of Materials Research and Review of Materials Research, and further enhance the academic publishing standards in the field of materials science in China, the Chinese Materials Research Society successfully convened a manuscript review meeting for the articles of these two journals on April 10, 2025. The meeting was held in Conference Room 8 of Friendship Palace at Beijing Friendship Hotel, holding in a combination of online and offline participation.

A total of 28 experts from universities and research institutions across the country gathered to conduct a systematic review and in-depth discussion of the initial drafts of the second and third issues. Currently, the first issues of Transactions of Materials Research and Review of Materials Research have been officially published, marking a significant milestone in the development of the journals and laying a solid foundation for the continuous production of high-quality content in the future. The esteemed experts who attended this meeting included: Academician Wei Bingbo, Professor Lin Yuanhua, Professor Lyu Zhaoping, Professor Zhu Min, Professor Zhou Kechao, Professor Miao Hongyan, Professor Wu Xiaolei, Professor Yu Yan, Professor Liu Yanhui, Professor Song Xiaoguo, Professor Sun Dalin, Professor Song Xiaoyan, Professor Zhao Naiqin, Professor Zhang Zengzhi, Professor Chen Renjie, Professor Wu Jianlao, Professor Zhai Wei, Professor Hu Liang, Professor Geng Delu, Professor Fu Qianguang, Professor Ding Xiangdong, Professor Wang Yuhua, Professor Jiang Bin, Professor Wang Aiyi, Professor Meng Guowen, Professor Zheng Weitao, Professor Li Runwei, Professor Sun Baode, Professor Ruan Ying, Professor Li Zhongming, Professor Feng Chuanliang, Professor Liu Gang, Professor Liu Xuechao, Professor Chen Hongzheng, Professor Huang Lujun, Professor He Jie, Professor Kang Zhuo, and 37 other distinguished experts.

The meeting was chaired by Professor Zhang Zengzhi, Secretary-General of the Chinese Materials Research Society. In his address, Professor Zhang emphasized that materials science is currently in a critical phase characterized by rapid development and deep interdisciplinary integration. Academic publishing serves as an irreplaceable core mechanism for fostering scientific and technological innovation and facilitating breakthroughs in fundamental research. To further enhance the international influence of materials science research in China and promote the high-quality dissemination of scientific and technological achievements, the Chinese Materials Research Society has launched two English-language journals: Transactions of Materials Research" and Review of Materials Research. These journals aim to establish a high-level international publishing platform that supports researchers, leads academic frontiers, and aligns with national strategic demands. The establishment of these journals represents a significant advancement in promoting the high-quality development of materials science and technology in China and constructing a world-class academic dissemination system.

At the conference, Academician Wei Bingbo, President of the Chinese Materials Research Society (CMRS), highlighted in his address that establishing a world-class scientific journal requires not only high-quality manuscript contributions but also the indispensable support of expert contingent characterized by academic rigor, profound expertise, and a strong sense of responsibility. Experts serve as the foundation for the journal's high-quality development and play a critical role in ensuring content quality and guiding academic direction. The CMRS has consistently prioritized the pivotal role of experts in journal development. Moving forward, the society will further refine the peer-review mechanism, reinforce comprehensive quality management throughout all stages, continuously elevate the journal's academic standards and international influence, foster the creation of a scientifically robust, rigorous, and highly credible academic publishing ecosystem, align with the national strategy for materials science and technology innovation, and strive to establish journals of global excellence.

To ensure the efficiency and standardization of the review process, Professor Wu Jianlao, Director of the Editorial Department of the Society, was invited to deliver a detailed introduction and demonstration of the operational procedures of the review system. This assisted the attending experts in swiftly acquainting themselves with the system interface and review methodologies. During the expert review session, the attending experts meticulously examined each submission, conducting comprehensive evaluations across multiple dimensions, including the innovativeness of research content, the scientific rigor of methods, the reliability of data, and the adherence to writing standards. Detailed revision suggestions and acceptance opinions were provided for each manuscript. Certain submissions prompted lively discussions among participants, who engaged in in-depth exchanges on topics such as the frontiers of materials science research, the distinctive thematic orientations of journal topics, and strategies for enhancing submission quality. The meeting fostered a robust academic atmosphere characterized by frequent intellectual exchanges.

This meeting convened numerous distinguished experts from various subfields of materials science. Their attendance and active participation not only ensured the efficient conduct of the meeting but also provided invaluable support for subsequent activities, including topic organization, manuscript review, and academic guidance for the journals. The attending experts unanimously acknowledged the high starting point and clear positioning of the two journals, affirming their strong developmental potential. They recommended continuously reinforcing editorial oversight, optimizing column configurations, and emphasizing the promotion of original domestic research achievements to enhance international outreach and influence.

This meeting not only successfully completed the review and evaluation of key manuscripts but also further strengthened academic consensus, providing clear guidance for advancing the sustainable and high-quality development of "Transactions of Materials Research" and "Review of Materials Research". Moving forward, the Chinese Materials Research Society will remain committed to its mission of serving national strategic needs and supporting scientific and technological professionals. It will continuously refine journal development strategies and strive to establish materials science journals with significant international influence, thereby contributing premium academic resources and robust platform support to the advancement of China's materials science and technology sector.
