On October 17, 2024, during the China Advanced Materials Industry Development Conference in Wuhan, Hubei Province, the Chinese Materials Research Society (C-MRS) and the Korean Materials Research Society (MRS-K) successfully held a bilateral cooperation meeting. The meeting aimed to deepen cooperation between China and Korea in the field of materials science and to jointly address global challenges in materials science. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed, laying a solid foundation for long-term collaboration.

Founded on February 23, 1991, MRS-K focuses on advancing high-tech sectors, including metals, electronics, and new materials. It promotes technology exchange among academia, research institutions, and industry in materials science and engineering and supports innovation in new materials through interdisciplinary applications in physics, chemistry, medicine, agriculture, and mathematics. Since June 1991, MRS-K has regularly published academic journals and hosted annual academic conferences and IUMRS international conferences, contributing significantly to advancements in both academic and industrial domains.

The meeting was hosted by Professor Guangxian Li, C-MRS Supervisor, and brought together key representatives from both nations' materials science communities. The Chinese delegation included C-MRS President Bingbo Wei, Supervisor Guangxian Li, and Secretary General Zengzhi Zhang, while the Korean delegation was led by MRS-K President Jin Hyeok Kim, alongside Vice Presidents Jong Ryeol Jung and Jae Hyun Kim.

One of the meeting's core achievements was the formal signing of the MoU, establishing several key directions for future collaboration. As per the agreement, C-MRS and MRS-K will jointly organize a series of conferences every one to two years in China and Korea, focusing on pressing issues like climate change, energy sustainability, materials recycling, and new material innovations. They also discussed plans to hold a Youth Summer School in 2025 alongside the bilateral meeting, providing young scientists from both countries with deeper professional training and exchange opportunities. To ensure effective collaboration, a liaison group will be formed to monitor the progress of ongoing projects through regular meetings.

This meeting marks a significant milestone in strengthening cooperation between C-MRS and MRS-K, reflecting the shared commitment of both countries to explore new pathways in international collaboration within the field of materials science. Together, C-MRS and MRS-K will contribute to addressing global challenges and promoting the sustainable development of materials science and technology.
