On July 10, 2024, the Chinese Materials Research Society (C-MRS) and the Korean Materials Research Society (MRS-K) held an in-depth bilateral meeting at the Baiyun International Convention Center in Guangzhou. The purpose of the meeting was to strengthen the exchange and cooperation between the two countries in the field of materials research, and to jointly promote the advancement and development of materials science.

The meeting was attended by key leaders from C-MRS, including Supervisor General Li Guangxuan, Secretary-General Zhang Zengzhi, and Deputy Secretary-General Chen Yanan. From Korea, Byungha Shin, Deputy President of MRS-K and also serving as the Treasurer of the International Union of Materials Research Societies (IUMRS), was present.

During the meeting, both sides engaged in enthusiastic discussions on several topics. First, there was a strong focus on enhancing exchange and friendship to promote bilateral cooperation in materials research between China and Korea. MRS-K welcomed C-MRS's cooperation proposal and looked forward to co-hosting academic conferences, seminars, and other activities to facilitate exchanges and cooperation between scientists from both countries. Supervisor General Li Guangxuan of C-MRS also expressed willingness to conduct various forms of cooperation with MRS-K to advance the development of materials science. To further solidify long-term cooperation, both sides decided to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the Fifth China New Materials Industry Conference from October 16-18, 2024.

Both sides also had in-depth discussions about playing a leadership role in promoting the development and sharing of materials research in Asian countries. It was agreed that strengthening trilateral cooperation between China, Japan, and Korea is significant for advancing the materials field in Asia. Therefore, both sides suggested holding a trilateral meeting annually, rotating among the three countries, to explore cutting-edge issues in materials science and to promote the overall development of materials research in Asia.

Regarding the development of the International Union of Materials Research Societies (IUMRS), both sides had fruitful exchanges and discussions. C-MRS actively shared insights on improving the management level of IUMRS, optimizing the election process for officials, and refining financial systems, and proposed a series of constructive improvement suggestions. MRS-K expressed strong agreement and committed to promoting these beneficial suggestions within IUMRS, aiming to collaboratively drive the continuous progress of IUMRS and serve the global materials research community with excellence.

The meeting concluded successfully with the achievement of multiple points of agreement. In the future, C-MRS and MRS-K will continue to maintain close communication and cooperation, jointly advancing the development and progress of materials science. We look forward to seeing even more fruitful outcomes from the cooperation between the two societies, making a greater contribution to human technological progress and social development.
