The China Materials Conference FJ Journal Symposium 2024 commenced at 1:30 PM on July 9 at the Yangcheng Hall of Guangzhou Baiyun International Convention Center. The symposium focused on establishing the International Materials Journal and Publishing Alliance. It discussed the current challenges faced by domestic materials journals, the collaboration between domestic journals and international publishing platforms, enhancing the international influence of domestic journals, and improving publication quality.

The Chinese Materials Research Society (C-MRS) hosted the symposium, with Professor Chen Yanan, Deputy Secretary-General of C-MRS, presiding over the event. Attendees included representatives from the Journal Literature Center of the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Frontiers in Materials Genome Engineering (English), Nano-Micro Letters (English), Information Research Institute of Northwest Institute for Nonferrous Metal Research, Rare Metal Materials and Engineering, Progress in Chinese Materials, Nature Communications, Springer, Institute of Physics Publishing (IOPP), Wiley, Elsevier, npj Computational Materials, Journal of Magnesium and Alloys, Beijing Steel Research Institute Publishing Co., Ltd., and several other publishing platforms.

The symposium began with an opening speech by Professor Chen Yanan, Deputy Secretary-General of C-MRS. Professor Chen highlighted that new materials are the driving force behind new productive forces and are critical support for strategic emerging industries. Academic journals, as vital platforms for the dissemination of research findings and academic exchanges, play an increasingly prominent role. The mission of C-MRS is to promote academic exchange and development in the field of materials through conferences and academic journals. Leveraging the extensive expert resources and publishing experience of various journals and publishers, C-MRS has initiated the "International Materials Journal and Publishing Alliance."

Subsequently, representatives discussed the establishment of the "International Materials Journal and Publishing Alliance" initiated by C-MRS. Representatives from domestic journals shared the current status of their journals, expressing the urgent need to form a journal alliance to establish a "journal cluster," strengthen cooperation, and promote the development of materials journals. Meanwhile, representatives from international publishing platforms expressed their willingness to join the journal alliance, provide professional training for editors, and share their views on the future development of materials journals.

The journal symposium concluded successfully, outlining the development direction for the future establishment of the journal alliance. C-MRS will expedite the formation of the journal alliance. In the future, Chinese materials journals will continue to maintain close communication and cooperation with international publishing platforms, jointly promoting the international development of materials journals. Through collaboration, we look forward to achieving more results and contributing significantly to the application and industrialization of materials science research.
