July 9, 2017 | Yinchuan , China

On July 9, the Chinese Materials Conference 2017 and Yinchuan International Materials Week (hereafter referred to as the conference), hosted by the Chinese Materials Research Society, opened in Yinchuan, Ningxia. The conference, themed “New Materials, New Technologies, New Developments,” saw the participation of numerous scholars from renowned universities and research institutions across Europe, North America, and Asia. Over 20 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering were invited. Nearly thirty experts, scholars, and students from Jilin University's School of Materials Science and Engineering, College of Chemistry, College of Physics, and the State Key Laboratory of Superhard Materials attended the conference.

On the morning of July 9, the president of the Chinese Materials Research Society, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and President of Jilin University, Li Yuanyuan, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Li Yuanyuan warmly welcomed the experts, scholars, and young scientists from home and abroad, and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region Government and Ningxia Association for Science and Technology for their strong support. In his speech, he highlighted the rapid advancements in new materials globally, such as materials genome engineering, graphene, superconducting materials, 3D printing technology, nanomaterials, and metamaterials. He emphasized that global challenges like energy and environmental issues continue to test our material development capabilities. The new industrial revolution, characterized by high-tech, high intelligence, and high integration, increasingly demands new materials. He stressed that China’s intelligent manufacturing requires the new materials industry as a technological leader. He also mentioned that the Chinese Materials Research Society, as a founding member and key participant of the International Union of Materials Research Societies, is dedicated to promoting the progress of China's materials science, facilitating international academic exchanges, orderly transferring government functions, promoting the development of the new materials industry, and providing social services, thus playing a significant role in advancing China’s modernization.

On the afternoon of July 9, Li Yuanyuan presided over the meeting, reviewing the work from 2016 to the first half of 2017 and proposing plans for the next year. The society will continue to actively engage in domestic and international academic exchanges, promote the research and development of various advanced materials, and strive to advance the practical application of new materials, new processes, and new technologies in the industry, contributing to the prosperity and development of materials science and technology and the nation’s economic construction.

The conference consisted of two main parts: the “Chinese Materials Conference 2017” and the “Exhibition of New Materials, New Processes, and Materials Testing Technology and Equipment.” The “Chinese Materials Conference 2017” featured 37 symposia, one materials education forum, and two international forums: the “2017 China-Japan-Korea
