High-quality Publishing, Focused on National Major Needs

The research strength in the field of new materials in China continues to grow, with research achievements in the field of new materials from major universities and research institutions attracting global attention. With a membership of 120,000 experts (including 238 academicians from both academies), the Chinese Materials Research Society(C-MRS) has gathered well-known experts and young talents in the field of new materials in China, possessing abundant intellectual resources. Constructing an academic stronghold for new materials in China, establishing academic journals, leading breakthroughs in the forefront of new materials, and promoting the construction of academic journals oriented towards national major needs are significant initiatives of the C-MRS. The C-MRS will create a series of new material journals with "Transactions of Materials Research" as the core, aiming at the international frontier and orienting towards national major needs, to establish a batch of top journals in the field of new materials in China.

Open Publishing, Emphasizing International Cooperation

As the most important academic organization in the field of new materials in China, the C-MRS's international organizational exchanges and cooperation are increasingly strengthened. In December 2023, the C-MRS and the European Materials Research Society (E-MRS)held the China-Europe Materials Conference in Beijing. Academician Li Yuanyuan, Chairman of the C-MRS, and Academician Wei Bingbo had in-depth discussions with leaders of the E-MRS on further close cooperation, among which joint publishing and creating a batch of high-quality influential international journals were important consensus reached by both parties. In March 2024, Academician Wei Bingbo, Chairman of the C-MRS, and Professor Zhang Zengzhi, Secretary-General, were invited to visit Elsevier Publishing Company, where they jointly discussed future journal cooperation matters and reached preliminary consensus.

Multiple Measures, Relying on International Academic Conferences

In terms of academic exchanges, the C-MRS aims to build an academic stronghold and center for new materials in China. Various academic conferences and forums held in 2023 reached nearly a hundred, with 350 academicians attending, and a cumulative total of 2.5 million participants online and offline. Among them, the "Chinese Materials Conference 2022-2023" had nearly 20,000 participants, the "4th Chinese Advanced Materials Industry Development Conference" had 7,000 participants, and the newly established "First Chinese New Materials Technology Application Conference", "First Chinese Carbon Dual Technology Conference", "First World Energy Materials Conference", and "First Chinese Advanced Materials Investment Conference" each had more than 2,000 participants. The society's journal publishing will rely on abundant academic conference resources to conduct academic exchanges, plan special issues and columns, continuously attract experts, and attract excellent manuscripts, showcasing high-level research results, and striving to create a batch of world-class well-known journals representing the national academic level. The Chinese Materials Conference 2024 will set up over a hundred cutting-edge forums, with an estimated offline attendance of 25,000 representatives, and over a hundred academicians and overseas academicians will attend. The C-MRS plans the International Journal and Publishing Forum, which will jointly establish an international journal alliance with high-end new material journals at home and abroad, cooperating to create a globally advantageous cooperation alliance in the field of new materials journals.

The C-MRS has established a group of new material journals, bearing the important responsibility of conducting academic exchanges, promoting scientific and technological development, and serving the economic and social needs. It should be based on the international major needs, resolutely prevent academic misconduct, not blindly pursue impact factors, support the growth of outstanding academic talents, and gather efforts from universities, research institutes, enterprises and institutions, and overseas organizations in all disciplines, fields, and industries engaged in material science research, industrialization, and application, jointly building an academic stronghold for new materials in China.
