"Chinese Materials Conference" — A Barometer for Global New Materials Development

The "Chinese Materials Conference 2024 and the 2nd World Materials Conference" will be held from July 8-11, 2024, at the Guangzhou Baiyun International Conference Center.
The "Chinese Materials Conference," organized by the Chinese Materials Research Society(C-MRS), is an annual academic meeting and one of the most significant brand conferences in China. It represents the highest academic level in the field of new materials in China, covering the broadest range of topics and presenting the latest cutting-edge developments. It is a national-level academic conference aimed at addressing major national demands and promoting significant breakthroughs in new materials.
Having successfully held 23 sessions to date, the conference will celebrate its 24th edition this year, with the number of participants increasing annually. In 2023, attendance surpassed 20,000, and this year it is expected to reach 25,000. The conference aims to provide a high-level platform for experts, scholars, professors, scientific researchers, relevant government officials, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders involved in the research, development, and industrialization of new materials to share the latest research achievements.
Globally, the new materials sector is witnessing rapid advancements, with continuous innovation in frontier fields and the emergence of original technologies. The interdisciplinary and cross-industry integration of new materials is strengthening. The "Chinese Materials Conference" aligns closely with China's major future economic and social development needs, proactively planning academic exchanges in the forefront of new materials. In 2024, the conference will feature over 100 symposium covering various cutting-edge areas in new materials development.
Chinese scholars' influence on the international academic stage is increasing annually, with the quantity and quality of new materials papers published by Chinese researchers leading the world. China ranks first in the number of influential journal papers and high-level international journal papers, as well as in citation counts. However, challenges remain in areas such as information materials, high-temperature materials, and chip materials, where progress has been relatively slow. To address these gaps, the Conference actively invites experts from Europe, Japan, and other regions for collaborative exchanges. Since 2023, the inaugural World Materials Conference has been held concurrently with the Chinese Materials Conference, marking a deepening of international cooperation and exchange in China's new materials field. In 2024, the second World Materials Conference will take place, with the Chinese Materials Research Society partnering with the European Materials Research Society to set up 10 international forums and with the Japanese Materials Research Society to establish one. A significant number of overseas scientists are expected to attend this year. At the beginning of this year, a deep cooperation agreement was officially signed between the Chinese and European Materials Research Societies in Beijing. One of the agreement's key aspects is to strengthen bilateral cooperation in academic exchanges. At the second World Materials Conference, renowned material scientists from the European Materials Research Society and the European Academy of Sciences will join Chinese scientists for in-depth academic exchanges in 10 fields. The conference's proceedings will further enhance international cooperation in new materials, significantly contributing to China's goal of becoming a global materials powerhouse.
The Chinese Materials Research Society, thoroughly studying and implementing the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, keenly grasps the new trends, changes, and directions in global new materials development. It strives to build a world-class academic hub for new materials in China, leveraging the expertise of its 120,000 members to continuously advance the academic landscape and international cooperation in new materials. By fostering high-level industrialization and application of new materials, attracting top global scientists to participate and collaborate, the "China Materials Conference" has evolved into a hub for talent, innovation, and cooperation in the new materials field. Let us continue to forge ahead, striving to achieve the goal of building China into a global materials powerhouse.
